Unit 13 Lớp 12: The 22nd SEA Games
Đại hội thể thao Đông Nam Á lần thứ 22
Đại hội thể thao Đông Nam Á lần thứ 22 được tổ chức tại Việt Nam từ ngày 5 đến ngày 13 tháng 12 năm 2003. Mặc dù đây là lần đầu tiên VN tổ chức một sự kiện thể thao lớn như vậy, Đại hội đã là một thành công rực rỡ. Đại hội thực sự đã trở thành một ngày hội gây ấn tượng với những người đam mê thể thao với tinh thần: đoàn kết, hợp tác vì hòa bình và phát triển.
Athletes from 11 participating countries competed in 32 sports, and 444 gold medals were won. Some teams such as table tennis, badminton, karatedo. volleyball, basketball and wrestling were composed of top competitors in the region. Many Games records were close to international levels. Vietnam won 158 gold medals to finish at the top of the Southeast Asian Games medal standings. Thailand was ranked second with 90 golds. and Indonesia was third with only 55 golds. Singapore and Vietnam were the two nations which had participants who were presented with the Most Outstanding, Athlete titles in the Swimming and Shooting events. The Vietnamese 'Women's Football team successfully defended the SEA Games title. Vietnam and Thailand played in the Men's Football Final. The Thai Team won the gold medal. In other sports such as karatedo, athletics, bodybuilding and wushu, the young and energetic Vietnamese athletes performed excellently and won a lot of gold medals.

The 22nd Southeast Asian Games were held in Vietnam from the 5th to 13th December 2003 Although it was the first time Vietnam hosted such a big sports event, the Games were a great success. The Games really became a festival that impressed sports enthusiasts with its spirit: solidarity, co-operation for peace and development.
Các VĐV từ 11 quốc gia tham gia thi đấu trong 32 môn thể thao và giành được 444 HCV. Một số đội tuyển như bóng bàn, cầu lông, karate, bóng chuyền, bóng rổ, và đấu vật đều có đội hình gồm các tuyển thủ giỏi nhất trong khu vực. Nhiều thành tích đạt được ở đại hội gần như ngang bằng với trình độ quốc tế. VN giành 158 HCV đứng đầu SEA Games về tổng số huy chương đạt được. Thai Lan xếp hạng nhì với 90 HCV, và Indonesia hạng ba với 55 HCV. Singapore và VN là hai nước có thí sinh tham gia được trao tặng những danh hiệu VĐV Xuất sắc Nhất trong các môn Bơi lội và Bắn súng. Đội tuyển bóng đá nữ VN bảo vệ thành công danh hiệu vô địch SEA Games. VN và Thai Lan chơi trong trận chung kết bóng đá nam. Tuyển Thai đã giành được HCV. Trong những môn thể thao khác như karate, điền kinh, thể hình, và wushu, những VĐV trẻ tuổi và tràn đầy năng lượng của VN cũng có màn trình diễn hết sức ngoạn mục và giành được rất nhiều HCV.

VN xếp thứ nhất trong bảng tổng kết là ko gì ngạc nhiên lắm. Trước tiên, để chuẩn bị cho SEA Games 22, VN đã tiến hành thực hiện rất nhiều chương trình tập luyện chuyên sâu cho các VĐV, bao gồm luyện tập trong các cơ sở vật chất, cả ở nước nhà lẫn nước ngoài. Thứ hai, với sự ủng hộ nhiệt tình của nhân dân cả nước, VĐV VN thi đấu trong tinh thần tốt nhất. Thành công của nước ta cho thấy VN có thể tổ chức một sự kiện thể thao mang tầm cỡ quốc tế. Một kế hoạch đã được đề xướng cho VN đăng cai tổ chức Đại hội thể thao Châu Á tại một thời điểm nào đó trong tương lai.

Secondly, with the strong support of their countrymen, the Vietnamese athletes competed in high spirits. The country's success has proved that Vietnam can organize sporting events on an international level. A plan has been proposed for Vietnam to host the Asia Sports Games at some point in the future.
